Intern with Headmaster

Intern with Headmaster

Headmaster is currently seeking interns for WINTER 2024.

Headmaster is currently seeking interns for Spring 2024. Internships with Headmaster provide the opportunity to work with a small creative studio that is fully immersed in the production of a queer art publication with global distribution. The Headmaster studio is located in the Valley neighborhood of Providence, Rhode Island.

Headmaster No. 10 is themed around gender and sport, so may be particularly intriguing to people with some knowledge of, or serious interest in, these broad subject areas.

In addition to some level of general studio support, all interns take part in the creative and editorial process. The ability to meet deadlines is expected, as is a sense of humor and an appreciation for contemporary art and queer culture. Applicants should be able to work at least two days per week.

Internships require 150 hours of on-site or remote work, although exact start and end dates can be adjusted to accommodate personal, work, and academic schedules. College credit is offered, but not required, for consideration. Headmaster has worked with students from Brown University, RISD, Bryant University, Ball State University, and UMass Dartmouth, as well as the greater Providence community. Headmaster interns have gone on to work for publications including Marie Claire, GQ, and more.

GRAPHIC DESIGN / BRANDING INTERNSHIP

Headmaster, the art magazine for man-lovers, seeks one qualified person for a spring Design & Branding internship. In-person or hybrid interns are preferred but a remote internship could be considered for particularly well qualified candidates.

The Design & Branding Intern will work directly with the Creative Director on projects related to the design and launch of Headmaster No. 10, scheduled for early Spring 2024 release. Major projects may include magazine layout, concepting of the marketing campaign and launch events around the themed new issue, and the design of promotional assets (still and motion).

The intern will also assist with research and development of additional creative projects that extend beyond the printed page. The internship is ideal for a student interested in graphic design, branding, publication design, and marketing campaigns.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and creative person with razor sharp InDesign and Photoshop skills, some experience with motion graphics and/or video, and a refined graphic design sense. Photography skills are desirable but not required. The intern should be comfortable working independently, conducting research, working closely with an art director and small editorial staff, and presenting design solutions.

How to apply: Email a letter of interest, resume, and portfolio (link or .pdf) to Jason Tranchida and Matthew Lawrence at headmaster@headmastermagazine.com with the subject line DESIGN & BRANDING INTERN.
